Welcome to Maiden Newton at War

Maiden Newton at War is the premier WW2 re-enactor event in Dorset but is currently under threat. The current event manager is standing down so the committee are seeking a replacement. Could this be YOU? If you have some spare time on your hands and a desire to manage one of the best re-enactor events in the UK then this is your chance. If you are interested please give Andy Elliott a call on 07967504716 or contact us here

We would very much like to thank our Sponsors for their support and for making our 2012 event possible. Why not take a look at our Gallery?

The rest of the site is yet to be updated!

BBMF SpitfireStop Press - Spitfire to fly over MN@War
We had booked a Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to do a display at our event this year. Unfortunately this has had to be cancelled, but it has been replaced by a Spitfire. The display is scheduled for 2.30pm on Saturday. There will also be several other aircraft in the air over the weekend including a Sea Fury.
Our battle this year includes a Panzer III tank (thanks to Quattro Group for making this possible) and a French farmhouse that we have built especially for the occasion. There will be about 400 re-enactors attending the event this year from both allied and axis forces as well as many civilian re-enactors. We have also built a mock 1940s village for them to occupy during their stay with us.

Our 2010 dvd will be available at the event £5.00
Here is a short intro to whet your appetite!

If you would like to pre-order a copy of our DVD which includes two short films; one of the 2010 Battle and one of the 2010 Event Highlights plus hundreds of photographs, you can contact us here and we will reserve a copy for you to collect during the event.

1940s Village under construction!
The MN@War crew have started to construct a 1940s mock village. We hope to have a few houses, a Pub, a Police Station, a Fire Station and a School. If you have any 1940s artifacts that you would be prepared to lend us for the weekend to display in this village or have scene painting skills then please let us know. This project has been generously sponsored by Riverside Takeaway in Maiden Newton. We are still interested in your pictures or memories of Maiden Newton during the forties. In fact we would be interested to see any information from the war years in Maiden Newton and Frome Vauchurch. Our Memories page has recently been updated. You can contact us here if you would like to offer us your memories of the 1940s.

Evacuees at our fashion showSTOP PRESS
1940s Fashion show a great success

MN@war have just held their first 1940s themed Fashion Show. It was attended by about 80 people. Many different fashions from the era were on display from the 'make do and mend' early forties to the more extravagant post war clothes. Even the evacuees made an appearance and several people were spotted wandering around in nothing but 'utility' underwear! The Evacuees can be seen in the picture on the left. We hope that our visitors will be inspired by the fashions of the era and will visit the high street or their nearest charity shop to pick up a bargain costume. More images are available in our Gallery?

Armour and Embarkation and Weymouth veterans parade
Maiden Newton at War 2012 will be opened by Armour and Embarkation who will set off on an historic parade around Dorset on Saturday morning. A column of tanks and armour will once again rumble around the lanes of West Dorset. What a spectacle, what a noise! The best place to experience this will be from Maiden Newton at War where you can soak up that 1940s atmosphere. We are also working very closely with the Weymouth Veterans Parade which also takes place over our weekend. We have coordinated our events to minimise any clashes in the timing of key attractions and to maximise the opportunities for both visitors and residents to attend both events should they wish to do so. Some of our re-enactors and vehicles will be attending the Veterans Parade on Sunday morning, but will return to us for the battle in the afternoon. We will again be holding our own Service of Remembrance at the village War Memorial at 10:30 to honour those lost to us in times of conflict.
